September 11, 2001.  8:46am.  The world is forever changed. With the collapse of the world trade centre towers, a nation is sent into chaos and fear. A man and a woman are faced with a world of opportunity.  A chance to start their lives again, together, in an existence different from the one they had just the day before. Expecting that his family believes that he was killed in the towers’ collapse, Ben contemplates using the tragedy to run away and start a new life with his mistress Amy. This high-octane, dramatic, and humorous thriller exposes the often-brutal realities of the war between the sexes and explores whether one can be truly opportunistic in a time of universal selflessness.

“There is no playwright on the planet these days who is writing better than Neil LaBute . . . The Mercy Seat is . . . the work of a master.” ―John Lahr, The New Yorker
